1968: Founded

QWETU DT SACCO has a rich and progressive history rooted in the cooperative movement in Kenya. The SACCO was founded in 1968 by approximately 200 visionary teachers in Taita Taveta County, who came together to pool part of their salaries with the aim of improving their financial and social well-being.

In 1976

Over the years, QWETU DT SACCO has undergone significant transformation and growth:Expansion of Membership:The SACCO gradually expanded its common bond beyond teachers to include government employees, business people, and other professionals, making it more inclusive and diverse.

2000: Introduction of FOSA

The launch of Front Office Service Activities (FOSA) enabled members to access banking-like services such as savings accounts, withdrawals, and salary processing.

2003: Introduction of Microcredit

Microcredit services were introduced to support small businesses and broaden financial access, further strengthening the SACCO’s role in economic empowerment.

2012: Regulation by SASRA

The SACCO came under the regulation of the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA), enhancing governance, compliance, and financial stability.

Growth and Modernization

The SACCO has continued to grow in membership, asset base, and service delivery, embracing technology such as mobile banking and improved systems to enhance customer experience.

Infrastructure Development

A major milestone was the establishment of the Qwetu Sacco Plaza in Voi, marking a shift towards modern, centralized service delivery and improved accessibility for members

QWETU DT SACCO stands as one of the leading deposit-taking SACCOs in the coastal region, serving tens of thousands of members. From its humble beginnings as a teachers’ cooperative, it has evolved into a dynamic financial institution committed to empowering members through innovative, inclusive, and sustainable financial solutions
